Blathnaid Geoghegan, Designer

Inspiration
I am inspired by observation and thinking, usually when away, collecting beautiful things, trinkets from markets, vintage pieces and experiencing different cultures. Rummaging through markets in any city I visit, and getting my fix at petticoat market in London early on a Sunday morning after a night out with friends. I can base a whole collection on one find or an art piece, it is the feeling I get from this object that I want to translate into my designs.

Style as a designer
Curious. Fabric, colours and prints are vital but the garments are quite clean line in form. The overall mood I want to create through my designs is very important, as well as the person who wears it.

Favorite object
My favorite object is a black lacquer vase I got in a small village, Manali, way up in the Himalayas. I just came across the workshop by accident down a small side street, where an old man was carefully making each one, all slightly different and unique. It just reminds me of that exact spot, and place in time when I see it. It did well to survive my backpack for six weeks before I got it home. Every time I see the piece the feeling of the trip comes back to me.
